As  International Women’s day is fast approaching, I just sat and thought about the past 21 years of my life and what I have managed to achieve over the years. For a woman from a Pakistani background, I have managed to do some pretty amazing things and I wanted to thank some amazing women in my life for that:

Thank you, Mum! You have been so supportive of everything. I have moved 1000s of miles away from you but you have stayed strong made sure you are still the rock I can rely on. You have always been the light at the end of the tunnel and the rainbow after the rain. Your strength has given me a great example of how should I be as a woman. When people say I am like you, it makes me happier than anything because if I could I be even 10% of you then it means I have achieved all I set out to do.

Thank you to my sister! I remember as I looked at my 22-year-old sister graduating from University, I thought she had all the answers in the world. I looked at her as my role model and expected her to act like one. I asked questions and wanted my answers from her, I wanted her to set an example for me and also save me from my mum when I acted like a brat. But now I am 21 I’m nowhere close to how she was… I am not as smart or as sensible and neither am I a role model. I realise now that when I was growing up so was my sister but because she was older I wanted her to have all the answers and trust me she did. She matured a little earlier to protect me and look after me. Today, I want to thank her for listening to my constant annoying late night talks, and for encouraging me to chase my dreams and passions, for giving me a new view of the world but most importantly giving me the role model I needed when I was 18.

Thank you to the countless other women who have inspired me. Thank you to the Girls Love Travel girls who pushed me when I was scared of my first solo travel. Thank you to my girlfriends for loving me and encouraging me to do things that I would never have done otherwise. Thank you to my landlady in Berlin for inspiring me and making me realise that writing is my passion and that I could do whatever I wanted with my positive energy. Thank you to the international role models such as Emma Watson, Beyonce and Lily Singh who make me want to be badass and live on my own terms. Lastly, I want to thank the women who have passed but have fought for the freedom and the rights of women like me.

Why not send your own Thank you to someone and make their day a little special!
